Play Dead, a new thriller co-written by Teller (the silent member of the magic/comedy team Penn & Teller) and Todd Robbins (a performance artist who will star in the solo show), is headed for Off-Broadway’s Players Theatre in October. The production will begin previews on October 21 and open on November 10, directed by Teller.
Described as a theatrical exploration of death, darkness and deception, Play Dead is set in a theater that appears abandoned, in which audiences are surrounded by sights, sounds and even touches of the returning dead.
Robbins is known for TV appearances in which he performs feats such as eating glass, hammering a nail into his nose, spitting out a ball of fire, swallowing swords and walking over broken bottles with his bare feet.
Play Dead will have scenic design by David Korins, lighting design by Thom Weaver, sound design by Leon Rothberg and original music by Gary Stockdale.
